Why Content Marketing is King

Content marketing is becoming the future of marketing.  As discussed in my last post, consumers are more and more aware of hard-sell advertising messages from brands—they just don’t care anymore!  Commercials can actually cause consumers to actively develop negative feelings about a brand, the exact opposite of the intended reaction.

Content marketing, however, aims to provide consumers with interesting, relevant, and valuable content first while subtly promoting a brand or product.  The biggest corporations in the world have started putting content marketing into their overall strategies and it has worked.  It has worked because people love to share valuable information with others, mainly because it makes them feel good knowing they’ve potentially helped someone out.  This repeated sharing is what increases brand engagement across whatever platform and engagement is what these corporations are after.

Increasing brand engagement is a common goal for marketers and content marketing is a great way to accomplish this.  It all comes to down to the question of “what’s in it for the customer?”  If you can’t provide some type of value, even if it’s entertainment, then your message is lost in the clutter.  This content marketing movement has created a challenge for the brightest minds in the business to rise above the hard-sell messages and truly create an experience for the consumer that actually provides real value.
